The Kano/Jigawa Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) in collaboration with other security agencies seized banned pharmaceutical products at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport.
This was disclosed by the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Kano/Jigawa Area Command, SC Saidu Nurudden on Sunday.
According to the statement, a passenger arriving from Cairo via Ethiopian Airlines flight ET941 at approximately 1am today was intercepted during a joint security check.
“The examination of the passenger’s luggage revealed 241 empty packages of OTRAVIN and 80 pieces of OTRAVIN nasal drops.
“NAFDAC, a key partner in the joint security check, has expressed interest in the seized items, particularly the nasal drops. In accordance with due process, the items have been detained, and a smooth transfer to NAFDAC is being facilitated.
“This successful operation is a testament to the effectiveness of inter-agency collaboration and the commitment of our personnel to combating smuggling and ensuring national security,” the statement reads in part.
The Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Dauda Ibrahim Chana commended the Comptroller General of Customs, CGC Bashir Adewale Adeniyi and his management team for their leadership and support at all times.
Comptroller Chana equally appreciated the dedication and professionalism of the personnel of the service and those of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), and National Quality Standard (NQS) who worked together to achieve the remarkable outcome.
Similarly, the Kano/Jigawa Area Command disclosed that it remains committed to protecting the nation’s borders, thereby ensuring the safety and well-being of the citizens.
